Is Stuttering Disruptive?

An interesting article appeared in the NY Times regarding a student who stuttered and was shunned by his teacher during classroom discussions. See:

This saddens me. I can recall an accounting class in high school where I was treated very similarly. The teacher's style of teaching was to have each student read a question aloud, then answer it. We would do this at least 2 times per week for the entire period. At the time, my stuttering was very bad. The teacher just started skipping over me when it was my turn to read, and would sometimes ignore me if I would ask a question in the class. This is more common than you think.
